Flick, Yaw Announce Nearly $4 Million Awarded to Projects in Lycoming, Union Counties
10/22/2024
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) and State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Bradford/Lycoming/Sullivan/Tioga/Union) today announced $3,790,012 in state funding has been awarded to community, economic development and school improvement projects in Lycoming and Union Counties. The funding was considered and approved at today’s Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) meeting in Harrisburg.
“The awards announced today will be incredibly impactful for our communities by funding important economic development, infrastructure, public safety, recreation and school improvement projects,” Yaw said. “Many of these improvements are desperately needed due to aging infrastructure, some of which haven’t seen significant upgrades in decades. I’m thankful to Rep. Flick for working with me to secure this funding.”
“This funding is critical as it allows us to share the benefits with as many people as possible, supporting infrastructure-related projects that help businesses, community members and visitors alike stay safe and strong,” said Flick. “In addition, I am pleased to recognize the needs of the South Williamsport Area School District and secure the funding necessary for significant upgrades to its building. It’s always a pleasure working alongside Sen. Yaw to see projects like this come to fruition and ensure our communities get the resources they deserve.”
The following projects received funding through the Local Share Account (LSA) Statewide program:
Lycoming County:
• Montgomery Water Authority – Broad Street and Wagner Avenue Water Main Replacement Project - $996,000.
• Williamsport Municipal Water Authority – Water Main Replacement Project - $963,251
• Lycoming County – Central Forensics Facility Equipment Purchases - $346,511
• Williamsport City Redevelopment Authority – Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity Construction Equipment Purchase - $311,045
Union County:
• White Deer Township – Community Park Roof Repair and ADA Upgrades - $173,205
“The Williamsport Municipal Water Authority (WMWA) is grateful for this LSA award to assist with water main replacements in the First St. corridor,” said Michael Miller, WMWA executive director. “This replacement addresses undersized mains and provides system redundancy critical to support this redevelopment project in the City of Williamsport. We appreciate Sen. Yaw and Rep. Flick’s comprehensive leadership in supporting our critical infrastructure.”
Additionally, the South Williamsport Area School District received $1,000,000 through the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program (PSFIG) for infrastructure upgrades to the high school’s HVAC system, ADA accessibility and its energy savings project.
The Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program (PSFIG) provides grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects. The Program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development under the direction of the CFA.
The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 2004-71), as amended, provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus programs. The CFA reviews and evaluates applications based on cost, strategic importance, and impact.
