Flick Outlines Goals for His Second Term
2/4/2025
WILLIAMSPORT – State Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) is approaching his second term with energy and enthusiasm as lawmakers return to Harrisburg for the 2025-26 Legislative Session and has announced his goals for his second term.

“We’re entering the new year during a time of transition, but I’m focused on meeting the needs of my constituents here in the district, first and foremost,” said Flick.

As he begins his second term, Flick has outlined several key priorities. Among them, he aims to secure funding from the Commonwealth to support mental health services, foster the growth of manufacturing and business in the region, and expand tourism efforts to enhance economic vitality. Flick is also committed to addressing corruption in the court system, as well as improving child custody laws and family welfare. At the heart of his agenda is his dedication to meeting the everyday needs of residents in Lycoming and Union counties.

“People want to know that their elected officials are listening to them, taking their concerns seriously and working on solutions,” said Flick.

During this legislative session, he will serve on the House Children and Youth; Human Services; Local Government; Environmental and Natural Resource Protection; and Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development committees.

Flick’s goals include the following:

Overseeing Opioid Settlement Funds
Flick’s experience in human services makes him uniquely qualified to oversee the distribution of settlement funds from the opioid crisis. He is one of just 13 elected officials named to the Pennsylvania Opioid Misuse and Addiction Abatement Trust (POMAAT), which is tasked with managing $1.06 billion in funds from pharmaceutical companies. Flick is committed to ensuring that these funds directly support programs to address the opioid epidemic, which has affected countless families.

“These funds must be used to support efforts that tackle the opioid crisis head-on,” Flick said. “This is a deeply personal issue for many people, and we must use this opportunity wisely to help those most impacted.”

Supporting Commonsense and Bipartisan Legislation

Flick is committed to supporting commonsense, bipartisan legislation that benefits families and communities. He has introduced a bill to improve child custody laws, which he says are currently skewed against one parent, often causing unnecessary conflict and harm to children. Studies show that children with two actively involved parents perform better academically, are less likely to suffer from abuse or neglect, and face fewer risks of falling into harmful behaviors. Flick’s legislation aims to ensure that children have equal access to both parents when possible, promoting healthier, more stable family environments.

“Shared parenting benefits children, and it’s time for the law to better reflect that,” said Flick.

In addition to custody reform, Flick has reintroduced legislation to eliminate emissions testing in Lycoming County and similar-sized counties, reduce the qualifications needed for substitute teachers, and strengthen voter ID requirements. He has also voiced support for reducing the size of state government, providing tax breaks for veterans and senior citizens, and instituting term limits for the state’s Supreme Court justices.

“With a divided Legislature, it’s important to work across party lines to find common ground and bring about meaningful changes for our Commonwealth,” Flick said.

A co-founder of the Meet Me in the Middle Caucus with fellow Reps. Jill Cooper (R-Westmoreland), Joe Hohenstein (D-Philadelphia) and Gina Curry (D-Delaware), Flick understands the value and necessity of open and constructive dialogue between lawmakers.

Recognizing Tourism as a Major Economic Driver
Flick recognizes the significant role tourism plays in the economy of the 83rd District, which is part of the Pennsylvania Wilds. The region, known for its vast forests, state parks, and outdoor recreational opportunities, attracts visitors who spend roughly $1.9 billion annually in local businesses. Flick is dedicated to boosting this economic sector and has secured over $1 million in grant funding for tourism projects.

In January, Flick and Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) helped bring $330,000 to two projects in Lycoming County through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program. These funds will further support tourism efforts in the region, benefiting both residents and visitors.

Human Services and Mental Health
Flick’s commitment to human services is also evident in his ongoing efforts to support mental health resources and services for vulnerable populations. One of his most popular initiatives is his annual Human Services Expo and Speaker Series, which will be held on April 25 at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. This event connects individuals with resources related to housing, health care, elder care, mental health, substance abuse, early intervention and more. Last year, nearly 70 vendors participated in the free event, which provides valuable information and services to local residents.

Flick’s work in human services is deeply personal, and he remains focused on improving access to care for those who need it most.

Fiscal Responsibility and Transparency
As he embarks on his second term, Flick remains committed to running a fiscally responsible office. He prides himself on avoiding special interest funding, not accepting money from super PACs or lobbyists, and being accountable to the people who elected him.

“I’m humbled by the opportunity to serve, and I take seriously my duty to represent the best interests of my constituents,” Flick said. “I will continue to fight for a government that listens, learns and delivers results without overspending.”

With a clear vision for his second term, Flick is prepared to continue working hard to meet the needs of his district and the Commonwealth.
