HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) announced today 16 fire and emergency medical service (EMS) companies were awarded more than $220,000 in grant funding.

“I’m grateful to see this state funding being awarded to our local fire and EMS personnel teams,” said Flick. “First responders are a valuable resource to our communities, and these grant dollars will continue their mission to protect our families.”

Following is a list of local organizations that received grants and the amount of the awards:

• Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (Fire) - $14,034.16.
• Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (EMS) - $15,000.
• Duboistown Ambulance Service - $15,000.
• Duboistown Fire Department - $14,617.72.
• Loyalsock Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (EMS) - $10,000.
• Loyalsock Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (Fire) - $15,000.
• Montgomery Volunteer Fire Company (EMS) - $15,000.
• Montgomery Volunteer Fire Company (Fire) - $14,617.72.
• Nisbet Volunteer Fire Company - $13,450.59.
• South Williamsport Fire Department (EMS) - $9,028.
• South Williamsport Fire Department (Fire) - $24,306.
• Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company - $10,723.
• Williamsport Area Ambulance Service Cooperative Susquehanna Reg. EMS - $15,000.
• Williamsport Bureau of Fire - $16,951.99.
• White Deer Township Volunteer Fire Company (Fire) - $14,228.68.
• White Deer Township Volunteer Fire Company (EMS) - $5,154.00.

Projects and programs eligible for funding include facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, fire companies were permitted to apply for construction savings accounts for the purposes of new facility construction.

The ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly. All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, and not General Fund tax revenue. The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with the application process handled through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with OSFC.
