WILLIAMSPORT – First responders and their families from the 83rd District are invited to join Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming) for his Hoagies for Heroes event on Friday, March 15.
The free event will be from 5-8 p.m., at Loyalsock Fire Hall, 715 Northway Road, Williamsport.
“I have deep respect for the first responder community in our area,” said Flick. “Our first responders give so much time and energy to ensure our safety when emergency strikes. I wanted to provide an opportunity for them to gather together with their families and enjoy a meal.”
In addition to this event, Flick recently co-sponsored legislation regarding free cancer screenings for firefighters. House Bill 1492 was introduced on the House floor and referred to the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee.
“Firefighters face a 9% increase in cancer diagnoses, and a 14% increase in cancer-related deaths, compared to the general public. This is a wake-up call that our firefighter and emergency responders need earlier cancer screenings to help protect them while they protect us. These screenings should be yearly and free,” said Flick.
