Flick Celebrates Natural Gas Drilling Money Coming Back to Lycoming, Union Counties

June 24, 2025

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) announced the 83rd District will receive more than $3.2 million in Marcellus Shale impact fees.

“I’m glad we can continue to responsibly develop our natural gas resources and ensure we keep reaping the economic and energy benefits of the Marcellus Shale,” Flick said. “These impact fees help municipalities complete a variety of projects. This industry continues to create jobs and improve our quality of life.”

Communities in Lycoming County will receive more than $700,000. In addition, Lycoming County will receive more than $2.5 million and Union County will receive nearly $28,000.

The following impact fee disbursements in the 83rd District were announced:

Lycoming County
  • Armstrong Township - $41,967
  • Brady Township - $3,857
  • Clinton Township - $45,359
  • Duboistown Borough - $12,836
  • Loyalsock Township - $155,019
  • Montgomery Borough - $8,704
  • South Williamsport Borough - $73,154
  • Susquehanna Township - $12,383
  • Washington Township - $19,001
  • Williamsport City - $329,833

Under Act 13 of 2012, impact fees are collected from the drilling companies with 60% returned to counties and municipalities affected by drilling. The rest of the money goes into a Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund, a portion of which is provided to counties. The remaining funds are used by the state for emergency response planning, training and other activities; water, storm water, and sewer system construction and repair; infrastructure maintenance and repair; as well as statewide environmental initiatives.

Checks to municipalities are expected to be distributed in early July.
