$100,000 Grant Given to Williamsport for Housing Needs, Says Flick
September 1, 2026
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) announced the City of Williamsport will receive $100,000 to help address the city’s housing concerns. The city was granted the money through the state’s Municipal Assistance Program (MAP).
The funding will go to the creation of a housing needs assessment and action plan. The proposed plan will analyze existing housing conditions and provide an action plan to address identified concerns. To develop the plan, the City of Williamsport will partner with the City of Williamsport Redevelopment and Land Bank Authority.
“Access to safe, affordable and quality housing is critical to any community,” Flick said. “This funding will help Williamsport better understand its current and future housing needs and develop a plan to address the challenges facing residents and neighborhoods across the city. As the state representative for the region, I look forward to reviewing the study’s findings and supporting the efforts that will strengthen Williamsport’s neighborhoods.
Valerie Fessler, director of Community and Economic Development for the City of Williamsport, echoed similar sentiments.
“This housing study will give the city a better understanding of our current housing needs, identify gaps and opportunities, and help us develop a strategic approach to expanding and improving our housing stock,” Fessler said. “We are extremely grateful to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for recognizing the importance of this work and for supporting Williamsport through the MAP grant program. This partnership will provide us with valuable data and a roadmap to make informed decisions and pursue future investments that will strengthen our neighborhoods and benefit residents throughout our community.”
Through MAP, municipalities and counties may apply for grant funding to cover up to 50% of eligible costs related to community planning and shared services.
